A3ES has just released the fifth volume of A3ES Editions, entitled Doctoral Education in Transition: Facing Challenges to Generate Change. The book brings together the contributions presented at the international conference organized by A3ES in November 2024, at Teatro Thalia in Lisbon, which focused on reflecting on doctoral education models and the emerging challenges in this field.
The volume includes contributions from national and international experts, addressing topics such as the evolution and structuring of doctoral education in Europe, the challenges of supervision, the integration of PhD holders into the labour market, and the perspectives of the doctoral candidates themselves. It also highlights the analysis of international trends, the growing importance of inter-institutional cooperation and internationalisation, as well as the need to align doctoral programmes with major scientific and social development goals.
With this publication, A3ES seeks to share with the academic and scientific community a set of reflections and proposals that underline the relevance of doctoral education for knowledge production, innovation, and the transformation of contemporary societies.
